Rather than perpetuate The Helicopter Fallacy, a distortion inadvertently promulgated by hundreds of wargames over the years, RG strives to paint a more truthful picture of WW2 generalship. We are cast as slightly frustrated, slightly baffled microphone clutchers miles from the action, not omniscient whirlybird passengers marshalling armies the way grandmasters marshal chessmen....

Everyone’s running from something, you say? Well, I’d hate to be running from this lad. While our short clip there doesn’t name names, a post on the Rainbow Six subreddit leaking the pair named then as Yana and Oryx - the moon-walker and wall-smasher, respectively. For clarity’s sake, let’s keep calling them by those monikers. Siege has grown an impressive lineup of wall-smashing gadgets across the years. But Oryx, it seems, doesn’t need any fancy-schmancy tools....

The serious line on this addition is, of course, to make it easier to see what you’re saying in low-lighting conditions, as the mask itself is see-through. The filters already had RGB rings around them, but as the bloke modelling the latest concept mask up the top there shows, you can now have RGBs beamed into your mouth as well. It’s a great idea, but I can’t help but chuckle at the over-the-top ‘gamer’ implementation of it....

The immediate pleasure of Re-Volt is that it’s about remote controlled cars, which means you’re vehicles are small and tracks are set in the aisles of supermarkets, toy stores and other locations based upon the real world. It’s like a 3D, not-so-micro Micro Machines. Re-Volt was originally released back in 1999, but it was re-released on GOG in late 2013. It was then pulled from sale in January 2014 when it turned out its publishers had bundled the release with new code written by the community, without first getting permission from those community developers....

XCOPS rebuilds the familiar turn-based tactical action of XCOM, turning it into a swat-sorta game where missions revolve around breaching and clearing small areas. Several times each mission you get to choose different entry points (which offer different bonuses), stack your squad up (or spread them around several breach points), then hit that GO GO GO button and pile in. Action largely unfolds in the familiar XCOM way, though here turns are interleaved between friendly an enemy units, rather than one side going then the other....

Y’see, good old family-man Jackson Williams and many of the other residents of Harris Valley looked up to their hero Newcastle. It’s just a shame Newcastle wasn’t actually very good at being a blood-sport contestant and kept failing to qualify for the Apex Games. Williams knew his way around the Newcastle armour because he worked on repairing it. So when a criminal gang kills the original Newcastle while trying to shake him down for debt money, Williams takes on the mantle to win Harris Valley’s freedom....

The reference in the title of Ian Maclarty’s Catacombs of Solaris is not unearned. The game initially seems to drop you into a fairly standard 3D dungeon crawler space, albeit with walls covered in bands or mosaics of bright colours. Every time you stop to turn your head or decide which branching path to take, though, the space shifts around you in an enveloping optical illusion that draws attention to how the human eye is always tricking us into thinking a flat screen is a 3D space to move around....

Under the proposed settlement, Riot would need to pay $80 million (£59m) to elibigle people, which is female employees or contractors who worked for Riot since November 6th, 2014. That’s around 2365 people. The remaining $20 million (£15m) will go on attorney fees and other expenses. In November 2018, the majority of the female employees at Batman: Arkham studio Rocksteady reportedly signed a letter raising issues of sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace. Since then, a Guardian report says, things haven’t changed enough. In light of this, the former senior writer of Rocksteady’s upcoming Suicide Squad game - who was behind that 2018 letter - has asked Rocksteady to take her name off it. The Guardian reported on 2018’s letter to management yesterday, saying that 10 of the 16 women then at Rocksteady (out of a reported 250-odd people) had signed it....

Honestly, I would only do a disservice to the game if I tried writing out all the different solutions to McPixel’s nutty adventures, so why not have a watch of our playthrough above and see for yourself? There’s a Tom And Jerry cheese gag, a literal red herring at one point, plus a snowboarding yeti that chases you down a mountain. I mean, what more could you possibly want? One thing I particularly liked was how each level was capped with a Hitman-style outcomes bar, showing you exactly how many endings there were left to unlock in each scene....

After four hours with the game’s early sections, I was surprised by how Saints Row felt. For whatever reason, I expected there to be a next-gen veneer coating it all, perhaps an all-new weightiness to character movement or an unexpected flourish here and there, like Volition had pushed the titular Row in an exciting new direction. From what I played, though, I found it drew heavily from the past - both to its credit and its detriment....

Admittedly, there are a couple of drawbacks. The CPU is only one of Intel’s Core i7-9750H chips, for example, rather than one of their newer 10th Gen processors, and the SSD is a SATA drive (albeit in M.2 form) rather than a proper NVMe SSD. However, Intel’s 9th Gen Core i7 still provides more than enough processing power for playing games and doing some light photo and video editing on the move, a SATA SSD is still miles better than settling for a traditional hard disk....
